October 2024 Newsletter We had a fun time at the last meeting! All the anticipation of the results from the Big Fish Tournament came to fruition, which Paul will summarize in his article. The best part was having Sean Wipperman and Ron Lee stand up at the same time to announce each of their Inshore fish weights. Sean had a 4.0 lb Barracuda and Ron had a 4.0 lb Bass. So, who won 2nd place for the Inshore category? The one who weighed in first! Ron … sit down! and crew to be personally attentive to each kid! This club is The Best!! Stepping up when the kids need help is what this club is all about, and you are not letting me down! A HUGE THANK YOU to Captain Frank Lo Preste for paying for this trip through the “Captain Rollo’s Kids at Sea Program.” We will be fishing aboard the Daily Double with Captain Fred Huber, who loves what we do. Fred is a big supporter of the club, but he is also such a great all-around guy who is dedicated to putting people on fish! I am really looking forward to this trip! Next up … don’t be bored, Join The Board! At the next couple of meetings we will be passing around a sign-up sheet for people who are interested in joining the board. It is such a rewarding experience, which probably explains why I have either been on the board, or I have been very involved with the board, since 2003! If you can’t make the next meeting on October 3rd, but would like to sign up and/or have questions, simply call or email me. We will present the candidates for the board at our December Meeting/Holiday Party, on Wednesday, December 4th at Portuguese Hall in Point Loma. Secret Phrase = Free Raffle Ticket! More people are joining in on the fun, finding the secret phrase that pays. The 1st place winners were rewarded with a really cool custom jig with the San Diego Rod & Reel Club logo on them (photos in the enclosed gallery). Super cool stuff! We have our next “We Take Kids Fishing” trip on September 29th! There will be about 20 kids from the Boys and Girls Club, along with 3 chaperones. The best part about it is that we have enough volunteers All you have to do is read each of the informative articles in this newsletter and find the word or phrase that will earn you a free raffle ticket. You will be informed in the newsletter accordingly, so keep your eyes open! Then, at the next meeting, simply tell the sign-in table the word or phrase and they will give you your special ticket.
