November 2024 Newsletter The local pelagics are slowing down, but the deep 300+ feet rock fish season is open! I’m still waiting for the Dorado to show up; there weren’t too many in our local waters this year, which was very surprising. For this last tournament, Yellowtail was the hoped-for fish, but with that bite shutting down all around us, it made for a frustrating tournament in hopes of getting one. Almost all of the boats in the tournament were at the islands, hoping for one! Good thing it was the “Inshore Potpourri Tournament”, which opened up more doors of fish to catch. I will let Ron tell you the results further along in this newsletter. One of my best friends, John Carroll, also a former President of the club, was out fishing at the islands during our tournament, but was not part of it because he wanted to hunt for Yellowfin Tuna that showed up. However, he found out they were outside of San Quintin! Too far of a drive with our local boats! It was too late to enter our tournament, but he decided to hit the islands. They were probably the only lucky boat that day, scoring one Yellowtail on the weather side of North Island while slow-trolling sardines. Even though it was a smaller grade, it would have won if they had entered the tournament! That’s what happens when you don’t enter the tournament; you catch the biggest fish! Just ask Frank Santiago, who fished a different tournament and caught a 5 lb Sand Bass that would have taken the side-pot! John Chuckta almost took 1st place, but was ½” short on his 4th Halibut of the day! Be sure to read the rest of this newsletter to “Hear All About It”. There is always great information in this newsletter. If you want to earn a free raffle ticket, be sure to write down the Word or Phrase That Pays! Just for reading the bulletin, you will get this free raffle ticket when you tell the sign-in table (at the next meeting) what the phrase or word is. It will be in here, and I will point it out that you just read the secret phrase. Good Luck! Time to not be Bored by joining the Board!! It’s a very rewarding experience that you will benefit from in so many ways. During this year, some of you have already expressed interest in helping, so please come to our November meeting and sign up. We will be passing around a sign-up sheet at the next meeting, so please take advantage of this great opportunity to support the club that supports our goal of We Take Kids Fishing!
